- Hinted at in the RPG profile, but expanded on: John was a South Side boy from an Italian family. He didn't have money growing up, but was close to his parents (being an only child). When his mother passed away, his father started to drink himself to death. John was a young punk asshole, but eventually went into military service due to a mix of 'misguided patriotism' and needing a way out.
- In the military, he got picked up for having the right disposition for certain morally flexible work, and was trained up accordingly. Hence, his ridiculous skills and the hinted-at nature of where he got them.
- Got the name "Gentleman Johnny" from Marco Vargassi, who intended it to mock John's manner of handling jobs in the mob. Marcone was very level-handed and worked well in the community, becoming a figure of authority easily.
- The manner of speech is a mask, coming from listening to a lot of NPR and imitating the measured tones until they hardly require any thought.
- Barring the immensely complicated relationship that he has with Helen Beckitt, Marcone has had to avoid sex for quite a while since taking control of Chicago. He's queer, half what you would call "equal opportunity" and half Powersexual. If his life's in danger, he's about 75% more turned on.
- Magic is a huge fucking turn-on. It's sort of embarrassing.
- About Helen. Marcone knows she betrayed him. He knew it was coming. That the Archive got caught in the crossfire is what infuriates him. Letting Helen in though was calculated and idiotic all at once. She is a lash against his back that he covets dearly. And she knows it, and obliges. But her actions almost killed Ivy, so he's cut himself off from her.
